About the route
Starting point
Hampshire SO50 7NE
A ride to Bournemouth and back to watch the Red Arrows display at the Air Festival. Starting from St. Mary’s stadium, we ride through the New Forest via Brockenhurst and Burley, then head for Southbourne, via Christchurch. Then it’s on to Bournemouth where we will watch the Red Arrows display at the Bournemouth air festival, before returning to St.Mary’s stadium. The display is weather dependent, but the weather looks good at present. This will be a reasonable paced ride ( probably 15mph average / 150-170 Watts NP ) as the Arrows won’t wait around. Therefore it’s best suited to road bikes, and a reasonable fitness level will be required. Bring enough kit and caboodle to make you self sufficient. As always we ride at the pace of the slowest rider, no one gets dropped. The route uses as much quiet backroads and cycle infrastructure as possible, but parts of the route include slightly challenging terrain. The published route map is a rough guide, and is slightly different from the actual route we will be using. Please note that the start point is actually SO14 5SP ( Ted Bate’s statue St.Mary’s stadium) not the SO50 postcode on the route map.
