IMPORTANT:
Please read all information including the free parking option and see photos attaches at the photo tab below.
This ride is not suitable for skinny road tyres. Gavel, MTB, Hybrid are more suited to the compact gravel surface of the rough country lanes and Wray valley trail.
All riders must wear a helmet and have a spare inner tube to fit their tyre size, NO INNER TUBE NO RIDE
Now the formalities are over let’s get cracking....
We will start the ride from Bovey Tracy (please see photos attached for parking and start point meeting area) is on Old Newton Road, free parking in the Heathfiled estate outside houses No’ 1-5 street parking, for precise location use what3words ///views.branched.juggler
see photo attached of terrace houses. You can park all along this road but i found this particular stretch is the widest.
From Bovey Tracey we will cycle towards Moretonhampstead through the Wray Valley traffic free trail (the Stover Way) it is mostly gravel and compact gravel so suitable tyres are vital.
From Moretonhampstead we will return to Bovey via the road to start with on a steep climb on the B3212 but only for 1 mile, leaving main road quickly to continue on the quieter undulating scenic route on country lanes cycling through beautiful views of Kennick and Tottiford Reservoirs, brilliant photo opportunity there.
Refreshment stop will be at the end back in Bovey Tracey at Café 3 sixty. Please bring enough snacks to last you until the refreshment cafe at the end.
This is a Challenging ride, do not be eluded by the distance the challenging part is after Moretonhampstead with few hills and narrow undulating country lanes.
For those who knows me im not the fastest cookie up hills so if I can do it so can you and we always stop at the top for a breather.
Recommended: It can be a tad colder at Moretonhampstead and on our decent a wind proof or an extra layer will be advisable.
Please note! There will always be a section large or small where we will be cycling on roads so riders must be confident cycling with traffic.
