Brailsford 50

Please join me for this epic challenging ride including the Drws Y Coed and Nant Gwynant hill climbs. This route follows the ‘Ffordd Brailsford Way’, named after Sir David Brailsford, one of the most prominent figures in British Cycling.

We start at Llanberis and head over to Waunfawr. We travel down to the coast and fly past Caernarfon castle, taking in country lanes to Llandwrog. We head up through Penygroes to the Nantlle Valley and tackle the Drws Y Coed hill climb. Ranked as one of the top hill climbs in North Wales this has an average gradient of 7% over 1.5km, with some parts topping out over 10%. We will stop in the tea room Ty Mawr at Rhyd Ddu. Then we head through the beautiful Gwyrfai Valley to the picturesque village of Beddgelert. The Nant Gwynant hill climb comes towards the end of the ride. It is a lovely long climb that is never too steep (the average grade is 4.4%) and gives amazing views of the heart of Snowdonia. Finally we descend back to Llanberis.

Majority on A-roads and some B-roads.

Ideal for Breeze riders who want to challenge themselves and have fun! Would suggest you only sign up for this if you have previously participated on one of my challenging rides and felt comfortable, or alternatively if you are new to Breeze rides and know you are capable, you are very welcome. This ride is classified as ‘challenging’ because it takes in 46 miles with approx. 800m ascent, includes the Drws Y Coed and Nant Gywnant hill climbs as well as a few other steep ramps on the way round, and we will be completing the ride at an average pace of approx. 20kph (12mph). This ride will definitely let you test your legs!

We ride up hills at our own pace and regroup at the top. We never leave anyone behind.

Money for the cafe stop if you would like
Clothes suitable for the weather
A helmet
Repair kit and spare inner tube
Make sure your bike is in good working order with the tyres pumped up before arriving on the ride
