Lets see if they have completed any more of the cycle path since we were last able to ride along it in December!

Part of the route will be on cycle path, but you also need to be confident to ride on the road, as there will be a couple of miles on a road that can be busy. As we have done previously, we will leave the cycle path at an appropriate point and will use a selection of back roads to lead us back to Allonby.

When we return hot drinks will be available from Twnetymans, or Jacks Surf Bar, should anyone want one.

Come and take in some of the new cycle path as it heads out of Allonby. Then taking a circular route to return. We will be on a mixture of surfaces, and there will probably be mud, possibly ice! So mountain bike or hybrid tyres are best, parts of it may be a struggle on a road bike. Ebikes are welcome too!

Between the two stretches of cycle path that we can access there is about 2 miles on road – you need to be reasonably confident rider on the road, as this particular stretch can be busy. When we reach the end of the cycle path, we will cross the road and head off on the quiet roads on a nice circular route back to Allonby, taking in part of Hadrian’s cycleway. The surface quality varies, and there will be mud, and possibly some ice, depending on how cold it is overnight. On return to Allonby there will be the option of getting a take-away hot drink at Twentymans

It can be cold and windy on the coast route, don’t worry, I will keep an eye on the weather during the week, and postpone the ride if necessary. Make sure that you are suitably dressed for the weather – layers are best. Your bike should have working front and rear lights to ensure that we are visible. Helments should be worn. And remember that spare inner tyre! Please do not join the ride if you are supposed to be isolating or have any symptoms of Covid.

First-timers welcome!
