DH7 7RJ

This is the first ride of 2 mountain bike rides for beginners for the spring 2020
Each ride will get you through the basic techniques of mountain cycling.
The ride will use a mix of disused railway lines around Durham, bridleways and off road tracks. The ride would be approximately 10 miles and will take up to 2 hours. The route for this first ride will start from Broompark car park and then we will use the disused railway line and off road briddleways towards Ushaw Moor. At Ragpath Cottage we will join the road for half a mile and take Ragpath bridleway to then descent into Esh Winning woods. At Esh winning we will go off track again using a designated bridleway and then continue towards Waterhouses. From there we will head back using railway tracks and road. Once we get back to Broompark Parking area we have a choice to continue for a mile to Langley Moor for a coffee at the end of the ride. The ride will be very muddy at places so come prepare for that.
For this ride I would recommend a mountain bike as a first choice, but a good hybrid bike with wider chunkier tyres will do the job. If you have disc brakes and suspension might be an advantage.
In order for the ride to leave promptly please be punctual so we can carry out bike checks prior to setting off. Please make sure that your bike is in working order and bring a spare tube to fit your tyres. As always we can’t predict the weather so please dress suitably and make sure you bring helmet, gloves and eye protection.
If the weather is bad we will only contact you if we are cancelling the ride and will do so no later than 8 am on the day of the ride by putting a message in the “conversation’ tab for the ride. If you haven’t heard from us we are still doing the ride.
