This is a wee taster to the hills round about Hawick, which offer stunning views and are perfect if you're new to cycling, or not been on your bike for a while. We will meet at the Heart of Hawick and once we've checked our bikes are good to go, we'll head out of Hawick towards Liddesdale Road and onwards to the Flex, which will have given our legs a wee warm up. Taking a right, we'll embrace the steady climb up past the Flex and onwards where we'll see Williestruther Loch on the left. If we are feeling great, there is an opportunity to take a right and explore more lovely scenery and take in Ca Knowe Cairn, which will add on another couple of miles, but we can see on the day.
After passing Williestruther, we'll take a right and pedal the rolling hills passed the Hawick Moor, where the following week, will be bussling with people, celebrating the Hawick Common Riding. You will enjoy the descent down the Nipknowes and the views of the town and most probably golfers enjoying the outdoors. This is where we'll find our cafe stop before the short descent into town and back to the Heart of Hawick.
Please wear a helmet and gloves are advisable. Wear appropriate clothing for the weather and please ensure your bike is in working order and your tyres are pumped up. Please carry any spares or tools you think you may need. Carry a drink and also bring with you money if you'd like to stop at the Cafe.
If you have an e-bike, please ensure there is enough battery to see you through and in the case of an electric fault, you are able to get home.
