Breeze Out - Train back : Avenue Verte to Gatwick

Yesterday (Monday) I pre-rode the route and found that Hilltop Lane on the Avenue Verte is closed, so we will NOT be riding over Farthing Downs on this occasion. As an alternative route we will ride up to Chipstead via How Lane on our way to Merstham. This is steep in places, so fine to get off and walk if needed.

This lovely one way ride is along a section of the Avenue Verte (Greenway) - London Paris cycle route. Much of the ride is off road and passes through beautiful countryside, nature reserves en route to Gatwick Airport. The route takes us over Farthing Downs which is a bit of a climb, but with great views on a clear day. We'll watch a few planes come directly over us before catching the train back to East Croydon or beyond (Gatwick is within Oyster card zone).

Mainly Tarmac, with some hard packed gravel, so suitable for most bikes.

We will stop for refreshments in Horley.

Please make sure your bike is in good working order and you have a helmet, drink, lock, money and spare inner tube.
