The Yurt and its wood burner are at the Dabbling Duck in the village of Shere, 24miles into our ride.

This ride is Cafés and Other Mini Bike Adventures difficulty grade 3-4/5 (hilly) through quiet roads and lanes directly in the Surrey Hills. Climbs and descents at own pace, waiting as necessary at designated spots; no one will be left behind.

This ride is suitable for the more experienced Breeze rider who is also capable of sustaining a Strava average of 21-23kph/13-14.5mph over the distance on gently rolling roads. This is a hilly ride so we shall be a bit(!) slower. Road bikes, and clip-in pedals (or imminently).

Aiming to be back by 1:30/2pm, and catching the 13:44, or 14:14 at the latest.

BRING Good bike lights! One more layer than you think you will need (eg a baselayer). An emergency snack and water (we shall be on the road for 2 hours before the café). A spare inner tube.
WINTER-IZE YOUR BIKE! Tough tyres (eg. Vittorio Rubino Pro's, Continental Gatorskins, Continental 4 Seasons). Mudguards (which will keep you, your bike and the others in the group clean from mud coming off your tyres). A larger saddlepack for extra stuff.
PREPARE YOUR BIKE: Check your tyres beforehand for: imbedded flints/thorns/tiny stones imbedded in your tyres and pick these out (these will otherwise work themselves through the tyre and eventually compromise the inner tube). Tyre pressure 80-90psi. Brakes working well. Your bike, its chain and cassette must be clean, and the chain lube'd (use lube for wet conditions)...This will save us from freezing by the road side trying to sort out mechanicals!
WHAT TO WEAR. Depending on temperature, you may end up wearing even 3-5 thin layers (this is normal!). Wear/bring a windproof jacket. Wear a cycling cap and/or Buff to keep your head and neck warm. Silk glove liners (Amazon) inside your gloves will help keep your hands toasty.
