Starting point

BS41 9JN

We'll meet in the car park right next to Ashton Court Mansion (road entrance via Kennel Lodge Road) at 9am ready for a 9.10 start (just after the Park Run runners set off).

This ride is for women with road bikes (drop handlebars and skinny/skinnyish tyres). We will split into three groups (around 10-12mph, 12-14mph and 14-16mph) to ensure that women can go at the right speed for them. It will be a 17 mile circular route towards Nailsea Wall and it is pretty flat. We will all follow the same route with an option for people to drop back into the group behind if they find the pace too high. There will be an extra 3-mile hill loop up Belmont Hill for the fastest group. The ride is designed to give riders the confidence to try group riding and to challenge themselves, in the knowledge that they will be able to find a pace suitable for them. The ride will be suitable for those without very much road biking experience as well as seasoned riders. You need a road bike for this ride please (see here for a guide http://www.bikeradar.com/road/gear/article/what-is-a-road-bike-36865). We would expect that those in the fastest group are almost certainly riding with cleats. Those who ride in the medium group probably do, and those that ride in the slower group no longer think "why are those people walking funny" and now think "maybe I should look at getting some of those pedals". We will stop for coffee in Ashton Court after the ride. We want this to be a friendly, inspiring, challenging ride (for those of you for whom 20 miles is a breeze, you are welcome to do another lap on your own after the coffee stop!). You might find this video useful but if it all looks too professional then don't worry - we definitely don't expect everyone to be able to do all this - but it's a good intro to some of the terms used in group riding. https://youtu.be/WL3RmtAlVM0.
