Broompark to Mount Pleasant

Broompark Picnic Area to Mount Pleasant and back Sunday 24th January 10.30pm Join us for an 15 mile new year winter warmer around the railway paths and quiet roads to the west of Durham. We'll head out via Broompark and the Brandon Bishop Railway path to Brancepeth before heading via quiet roads from the Wear Valley over to the Deerness and skirting Mount Pleasant (Stanley Crook). After this bit of uphill it will be a breeze back down this next railway path to Durham. We'll have refreshments at the Morley Wheel, Brandon The railway paths are a decent riding surface (except when really wet) and we'll be sticking to quiet roads. It will be suitable for any bike except for very skinny road tyres. The ride is challenging in places so suitable for those with some level of fitness. Children are welcome but we would recommend that they have ridden at least as far previously and be over 10, as there are some on road sections. Under 16’s must wear helmets. As this is a winter ride please come with lights and dress suitably for the weather. It's better to have too many clothes than too few. Bring along a spare inner tube to fit your wheels in case we need to deal with a puncture. Please try to book at least 24 hours before the start of the ride. Same goes if you cannot make the ride please take yourself off the booking system so your place is available for someone else.
