Caerwent to Usk

We head east through Caerwent village and then follow the cycle path to Crick. Then we start to climb. It's mostly uphill to Shirenewton and then we carry on climbing as we head towards Usk. The reward then is a nice long scenic downhill run to LLangym. Finally we follow the main road for a short section before turning off into the centre of Usk.
After lunch, we head out of Usk past the prison and down the hill at LLantrisant. We keep following this lane until the turning for Catsash. Then it's up and over the hill and down to the A48. We turn left here and cycle on the path for a short while before we turn onto Magor Road for just over a mile. Again we turn left and then it's another climb up to Llandevaud before we descend along Bowden's Lane. Finally we follow the road through St Brides valley, over Carrow hill and along the path back to Caerwent.

A circular route around the lanes with nearly 2000ft of climbing. A good challenge for the legs!

There is a small amount of cycle path near the beginning and end of the route. After that it is a combination of country roads and lanes.

We will stop in Usk for lunch.

Please wear a helmet and bring along some money and a lock for our lunch stop. It is also a good idea to carry a spare tube just in case.
