Starting point

Midlothian
EH16 5TY

Starting from Cameron Toll, we will cycle through Inch Park and the Inch housing estate to Gilmerton Road. This has a segregated cycle lane, although a short section of this is currently closed due to roadworks. We then turn on to Ellen’s Glen Road and Hyvot’s Loan, where we pick up Quiet Route 61 through Gilmerton. We then ride along the shared-use pavement on Lasswade Road. From here, we enjoy a long stretch on the old railway path to Danderhall. We then take quiet roads through Danderhall to Little France Park and then Craigmillar Castle Park. We will stop for refreshments at Bridgend Farmhouse near the exit to the park on Old Dalkeith Road. From here, it is a very short distance back through Inch Park to our start at Cameron Toll.

Route rating

0 stars (0) Reviews

This is a circular route around south-east Edinburgh with views of countryside to the south and Arthur’s Seat, Craigmillar Castle and the cost to the north.

The route is mostly on cycle paths and quiet roads. There are also some inclines, but nothing is severe. We will take plenty of time and not leave anyone behind. The path through Craigmillar Castle Park is compacted gravel, so the ride is not suitable for skinny road bike tyres.

We will stop at various points to admire the view, and will stop for refreshments at Bridgend Farmhouse near the end of our ride.

Bring a payment card or cash if you wish to buy any refreshments at our coffee stop. Helmets are strongly advised. Bring a spare inner tube (or two), and a lock if you have one, but don’t worry if you don’t as we can fasten our bikes to each other. Plan a means of getting home in the event of mechanical breakdown (call a friend, take a taxi etc).

First-timers welcome!
