Starting point

Midlothian
EH8 9LD

We will ride from the Meadows on quiet roads through The Grange and Prestonfield to reach Craigmillar Castle Park. From there, we cross into Little France Park where we head uphill to The Wisp. We then take a scenic country road with views across to the coast. (This road is quiet - motor vehicles are restricted to access only.) We then skirt Queen Margaret University and head to the River Esk. We take the path next to the Esk as far as the Electric bridge in Musselburgh, which we cross to reach Levenhall Links. We will take a circuit around the links, where we can see what birdlife we can spot in the lagoons. We will then recross the electric bridge and follow the coast through Fisherrow links to Fisherrow harbour. From here, we take the Brunstane Burn path up to Brunstane station and then to our refreshment stop at Costa near to the Range. After our stop, we will follow cycle paths through Magdalene Glen and Jewel Park, before joining the Innocent path and then returning to The Meadows.
The route is rated as Steady because the hill in Little France Park, while not being particularly steep, is quite long. However, everyone can go at their own pace. We will take plenty of time and make sure (as always) that nobody is left behind.

Come and celebrate Scottish women and girls in sport week by joining us on this ride from the Meadows with views of Arthur’s seat, Craigmillar Castle and out to the coast, with a circle around Levenhall Links.

The route is mostly on cycle paths and quiet roads. The surface is paved, apart from some hard-packed gravel in Craigmillar Castle Park.

We will stop for refreshments at Costa in the car park of The Range. We will also stop at Levenhall links and Fisherrow harbour, plus other points along the way to catch our breath.

Bring a payment card or cash if you wish to buy any refreshments. Helmets are strongly advised. Bring a spare inner tube and a lock if you have them, but don’t worry if you don’t have a lock as we can fasten our bikes to each other. Plan a means of getting home in the event of mechanical breakdown (call a friend, take a taxi etc).

First-timers welcome!
