Cheshire Lanes to Knutsford

A route from Winwick, Warrington that takes in some of the great cycling countryside in the county of Cheshire. From our starting point at the Swan Pub we will head towards the east side of Warrington and cross the Manchester Ship Canal at Latchford Locks. We then pass through the pretty villages of Thelwall and Lymm, to High Legh and Mere (playground to the rich and famous!) to our refreshment stop at the historic town of Knutsford. The ride heads back towards Budworth (and maybe an ice cream stop, time and weather permitting), to Arley, Appleton Thorn and cross back over the ship canal at Stockton Heath and back to the start via Callands and Gemini (M&S or Ikea anyone?!) From a ride originally plotted by group members Helen and Jayne (with some variations), who will navigate the route on the day.

A circular route from The Swan at Winwick out onto the Cheshire country lanes and through the pretty villages of Thelwall and Lymm, High Legh and Mere and a visit to the ice cream farm at Budworth.

The majority of the route is on hard surfaced main roads and some cycle paths and suitable for most bikes.

Our planned refreshment stop will be in the village of Knutsford after approximately 18 miles although it is likely that we may take additional, unplanned stops based on the weather conditions on the day (and maybe even at an ice cream farm!).

All riders will be required to wear a helmet and carry spare inner tubes and the means to be able to repair a puncture (assistance will be provided if required). Don't forget some money or your card for the cafe stop (and maybe an ice cream)

This is a very scenic route in some excellent cycling countryside and there will be plenty of photo opportunities along the way. We want everyone to enjoy the ride so it will be at a pace to suit all riders in the group and to take account of the weather conditions (usually between 9-11 mph). And remember, we will never leave anyone behind!
