Starting point

London

An easy-going ride to Chiswick House and Gardens going along the Riverside from Kew Bridge to Hammersmith. There is the odd busy road that we need to join, but they are few and far in between and very short stretches, so beginners who want to get more used to cycling in traffic are welcome to join.

We set off joining the cycling lane on the A40/Western Avenue and cross through Acton Park, and soon we ride through a small section of the new cycle lane in Chiswick High Road and towards Kew Bridge, when we join the Riverside for the first time.

Soon we arrive at Chiswick House where we will have a break for coffee and to visit the gardens by foot – this is highly recommended as the garden grounds are very gravely making it difficult for road bikes with skinny tyres, so we avoid cycling on the gardens altogether.

We leave Chiswick House immediately joining the Riverside again all the way to Hammersmith Bridge. This section is notorious for getting flooded when the tide is high, so we will assess our route on the day and divert slightly if necessary.

From Hammersmith, we zig-zag through mainly quiet roads to Notting Hill and North Kensington, crossing over the Grand Union Canal and using back roads to Roundwood Park.

Helmets aren't compulsory but highly advisable. Please wear a mask if entering an indoor space like a toilet or coffee shop, except if you are exempt. Unless the weather takes a nasty turn making it unsafe or unpleasant to cycle, this ride will go ahead even if it rains – dress for the weather and bring waterproofs.

Places are limited and sometimes get booked up with a waiting list. If you develop Covid-19 symptoms or have been told to self-isolate before the ride, or can't make it for any other reason, please ensure to cancel your space so someone else can join.
