Starting point

CA13 9RS

Outside the Auctioneer statue. Station Street entrance of Sainsbury's.

Leaving Cockermouth via the Lorton Road and tuning at Strawberry How onto even quieter roads before heading south along one of the lushest prettiest parts of the Northern Lakes, apparently. Passing through Low Lorton, Hopebeck and Brackenthwaite to Kirkhead. Where we can stop at the Kirkstyle Inn for refreshment if we choose or continue heading back along the opposite side of the valley capturing some great views of Crummock water before passing through Thackthwaite, along the river for a spell towards Southwaite before heading back into town. Helmets are essential, a spare inner tube useful, comfortable clothing – a waterproof if wet, some water & a snack are advisable. Money for cake & coffee at the end a good idea! Most of the route undulates along good tarmac roads but there is a section along an unkept U road of about 300m. Therefore, road bikes with slick tires are not advised. The ride is suitable for more regular and experienced riders wanting to see a different part of Cumbria. We will ride at the pace of the slowest rider so no one is left behind. The aim being to have an enjoyable social ride in the company of others.
