Route rating
(0) ReviewsA 27 mile circular route , starting in Melrose and cycling via the Bogley to Newton St Boswells, then via Dryburgh, and on through Maxton heading to The Birdhouse for coffee and scones.. Then cycling on through Ancrum and up over the shoulder of the Eildons via Belses, Bewlie, Clarilawburn before returning to Melrose down Dingleton Hill.
Mainly quiet country roads, crossing the A6091 as we leave Melrose to join the closed road over the Bogley Burn, we cycle through Newtown St B to cross over the A68, then crossing the Tweed via Dryburgh Chainbridge. We then cycle via Clintmains to recross the Tweed at Mertoun, and head to Maxton briefly joining the A699 before turning off and following the quiet lanes to The Birdhouse tearoom at Woodside. From there we will continue to Ancrum, crossing the A68 again and following the B6400 through Belses and Bewlie. We take a right turn to join the b6359, all the way using our climbing legs to climb up over the shoulder of the Eildons until we drop down into Melrose via Dingleton Hill. Approx 2300 ft of climbing, and 27 miles with a coffee stop at the halfway point along the route.
Stopping to regroup, catch our breath, take a photo, and for coffee at the Birdhouse Tea room.
Please dress appropriately for changeable Scottish weather, bring plenty to drink and money for the cafe stop. A spare inner tube and tools to deal with any mechanical issues.
We never leave anyone behind
