How to get from Crowthorne to Wokingham by bike while the Easthampstead Road Level crossing is closed? This route crosses the ford at Redlake Lake and uses byways and the bridge over the railway to get to Montague Park and then on to Binfield for coffee (after 10 miles.) It is then 8 miles back, using Bracknell cycleways and going UNDER Downshire Way to Jennetts Park and back to Crowthorne through Buckler's Park. No big hills on this route, so it is suitable for all.
Starting at Wellington Health & Fitness Club, we'll head over to Buckler's Forest (and can pick anyone up from there at 9.45 if preferred?) We'll ride on the off-road trails through the Forest, then head over to cross the bridge over the ford and take a quiet byway to Montague Park, then on to Binfield via Monks Alley. We will stop at the Foxes Den cafe in Binfield for coffee (and cake?) before returning through Binfield, Bracknell and Jennetts Park, using lots of cycleways.
Cycle helmets are compulsory and please bring with you: a bottle of water, money or card for payment at the cafe, a spare inner tube to fit your bike and a pump and bike lock if you have one. Please check your bike the day before, especially tyres inflated correctly (makes cycling easier!) both brakes working and oil on your chain.
