The Central London Outdoor Group (CLOG) (founded 1937) has one or two easy cycle rides in the countryside nearly every week between March and October ranging from 20 to 35 miles. These are easily accessible by public transport from London and are on quiet roads or cycle paths.

By bike we explore rivers, canals, forts, castles, coast, marshes, gardens, woods, ruins, churches, mansions, cycle-ferries, churchyards, villages, lost railways....

Non members can come up to 3 cycle rides or other events to try us out before joining. Photos from past cycle rides and walks: https://www.flickr.com/photos/clogpics/albums/

We also do around 20 trips away(weekend or longer) in the UK and abroad every year.

Cycle ride: Luton Parkway to Enfield Lock on abandoned railways and tow paths

The full ride to Enfield Lock is 36.5 miles but there are many drop out points if you prefer a shorter route or need to get back early.

The first stage goes from Luton Parkway to Welwyn Garden City on a disused railway cycle path. If you drop out at Welwyn Garden City, you will have done 13 miles. That would really be soft so keep pedalling!

The second stage is another disused railway cycle path from Welwyn Garden City to Hertford. If you drop out at Hertfold, you will have done 21 miles.

From Hertford we pedal along the River Lee Towpath to Ware (23.5 miles), St Margarets (25.5 miles), Rye House (27miles), Broxbourne (30miles), Cheshunt (33 miles) and Enfield Lock (36.5 miles)

A perfect ride for those who love old railway lines and canal tow paths. As added bonus, the ride is gently downhill all the way (except for a couple of little hils).

Obviously we will need plenty of sustenance to keep us going

Morning Tea.

Charlies (1A Station Rd, Wheathampsted) after 7 miles (Top cafe in Wheathampsted according to Tripadvisor). Tea or coffee and yummy cakes

Lunch
We can have lunch at the Cowper Arms at Letty Green (17.5 miles

Afternoon Tea

Either in St Margarets (25 miles) or the pub by the river in Broxbourne (29.5 miles)

How do I get there?
