Lanarkshire

This is a perfect cycle for an evening outing.

We leave Lanark Lifestyles and head past Smylum House to join the A743 to Carstairs. At Carstairs, we turn right and head to Carstairs Junction where we turn right again and cross the Clyde for the first time. We climb up the hill from the Clyde and head towards Covington, but turn right to continue along quiet roads to emerge at the Eagle Gates that form the entrance to Carmichael Estate. We then head along the main road and cross the Clyde again at Hyndford Bridge before heading back into Lanark.

The vast majority of this route is on cycle paths and quiet roads, but the 3 mile stretch between Lanark and Carstairs is on the A743, which is a bit busier and the section back to Hyndford Bridge is on the A73, is a bit busier.
