Sunday 15th December 2019 9:30am

Starting from - MAIN STARTING POINT - 9:20 for 9:30am departure, Local Hero café in Kingston Market (opposite Halfords) 40mi loop

EARLIER STARTING POINT - 8:30 for 8:40am departure, Roehampton Café (Colicci) Richmond Park. 50mi loop

Nice! ... Both Roehampton café and Local Hero open at 8:30am. If you arrive early, do LOCK your bike and wait inside café to keep warm!

We need your help! ... We really must leave Kingston by 9:30am. The yurt is known to be disastrously busy at midday. Our table is booked for 11:30am. If we lose it, it is unlikely that we shall get another AND be back by the advertised time. Thus we are going to have to leave 9:30am pronto from Kingston. We are very sorry, but if you are late for whatever reason, you will find that we had to leave ... please do head towards the Dabbling Duck, and try to intercept us en route.

FINISH
Kingston Market c.2:30pm
Richmond Park c.3pm

BAD WEATHER? - We shall try to ride. We shall either start later and go to another café to finish by 2:30pm Kingston Market / 3pm RP. Or we shall cancel. Our priorities shall be safety and enjoyment. Deborah Liew will advise!

The Dabbling Duck café in Shere puts up a yurt and a roaring wood burner in its garden over autumn and winter, and this is where we are going for brunch! We are aiming for an 11:15-11:30am arrival for our yummy brunch.

Here is our route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/31263756

A scenic and mush-free route. Once out of Cobham, we wiggle round the quiet lanes of Downside Village to the Horsley road and back roads of Effingham. Green Dene. Down Combe Lane (a descent with a sharp corner) to Shere, returning the same way (ie. up!); we shall ride this road cautiously both ways, and at everyone's own pace.

This is a relaxed ride. Our average speed will be somewhere around 20-23kph/13.5mph; possibly at the slower end of 20kph/12-12.5mph given winter - cold to very cold, taking extra care on autumnal/wintry roads, heavier winter bikes, etc! No one will be left behind. Own speed on hills, re-group at the top/bottom/ at junctions. Looking out for each other. Pace of the slowest.

BRING -
Good bike lights. An additional layer of clothing (eg a merino baselayer) which hopefully you shan’t need. Water. An emergency snack.

YOUR BIKE -
Please ensure that your bike is in excellent working order. Chain, gears, cogs should be clean and greased; no squeaking (which spells trouble...) Tyres should be inflated until they feel like an apple.
