Derwent Walk Country Park
Sunday 11th October - 12:30pm - 14 miles
Expect to be out for about 2.5hrs
Starting from The Keelman pub in Newburn (Grange Rd, Newburn, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE15 8NL) we’ll head east on the north side of the river Tyne before crossing the river using the iconic Scotswood bridge. After crossing the Tyne, we will follow the river Derwent before joining a shared use path through the Derwent Walk Country Park - a lovely location, whatever the weather - particularly lovely in Autumn!…
The route is suitable for all levels of rider, including beginners or those who don’t cycle very often, as it is mostly flat, with just a gentle incline for about 1.5 miles through the Derwent Park (which is followed by a gentle sweeping downhill!)
To comply with regulations around socialising in public venues, a cafe stop will not be included, so you may want to bring a snack and a drink.
In order for the ride to leave promptly, please be punctual so we can carry out bike checks, etc. prior to us setting off. Please make sure your bike is in working condition and bring a spare tube to fit your tyres. Helmets are not mandatory, but are strongly advised.
PHOTOGRAPHY - The organiser of the ride may take photographs or videos of the ride and riders for publicity purposes. By registering to participate in the ride, you agree that photographic images of you or containing you, may be used by the organiser, sponsors or promoters of the ride for publicity purposes
If the weather is poor we will only contact you if we are cancelling the ride and will do so by putting a message in the ‘conversation’ tab in the ride. You should receive a notification by email if there is a message. If you have not heard from us we are still riding.
Due to COVID restrictions, places on rides are very limited so if you book on this ride and then find you have to cancel, please do so as soon as you can so that your place is available to someone else.
In view of COVID-19 we will be taking this into account with our ride leading and we will follow govt. guidelines. Please note the following:
• Maximum ride number to be 6 (including leaders). This may change as govt guidance dictates.
• We will not share any equipment so please be organised and bring your own items eg drink, spare inner tube, tyre levers and pump, sun cream and hand sanitiser.
• You should pay particular attention to your bike being in good working order before attending a ride so as to minimise risks and disruption to rides.
• We will ride taking social distancing into account. At the time of writing British Cycling recommend riding 2m apart.
• Participants must not attend a ride if they have COVID-19 symptoms or have been in contact with anyone with symptoms
• Anyone who develops COVID-19 symptoms during a ride must inform a leader.
• Anyone who develops COVID symptoms after a ride must contact the leader who will inform British Cycling HQ who will then contact everyone who attended the ride.
You can contact the leader directly via the ‘Message Ride Creator’ tab in the ride posting on Let’s Ride.
Look forward to seeing you.
Susan and Wendy
Suitable for all levels, but particularly suitable if you're new to cycling or if you don't cycle very often.
