Starting point

London
HA5 4LB

This ride is for experienced riders who are used to hills, busy roads and some gravel paths at Merryhill. This is our 3rd Diwali ride and is repeated every year due to popular demand. We will meet inside the car park at Hatch End station. There is free parking at Harrow Arts Centre if coming by car. Although the start time is 8.00 a.m. please arrive at 7.45 a.m. for introductions and bike check ready to leave at 8.00 a.m. This circular rides takes us to Canons Park and then Edgwarebury Lane crossing M1 over the bridge with potholes. We will proceed through busy junction with traffic lights to go towards Aldenham Road for our second stop at Aldenham Country Park (optional coffee). After a brief stop, we will touch base at the Elstree Aerodrome before going towards Letchmore Heath village and towards the main entrance from Hillfield Lane to Temple. We will stop at the temple for our refreshments. (You are welcome to bring your own snacks if you wish). We will tour the grounds time permitting. We will leave the temple which is an ex-manor donated by George Harrison, Beatles through the main entrance towards Bushey via King George Park and through Merry Hill Greenway route to arrive at Carpenders Park Station for our final stop. There is a choice to take the overground train Watford-Euston line with stops for either Watford going North or south going through to Harrow & Wealdstone which is a step free access or getting off at Hatch End station but there are stairs to navigate. We can however arrive back to Hatch End by cycle from Carpenders Park through garden centre and Oxhey Road.

Ensure your bike is in good condition. Pump up the tyres, check the brakes and ensure the wheels turn freely. Road bikes with thin tyres are not suitable. Please note that this ride does have undulations but we will wait for you at the top of hills.

Please do not book in advance if you are unsure you can attend. Places normally do come up last minute due to cancellations so it is advisable to put your name on waiting list.
