Starting point

Greater Manchester
M35 0QD

We set off from the welcoming GROW hub in Failsworth and roll gently along canal towpaths and protected cycleways towards the city, picking up riders at Cutting Room Square in lively Ancoats. The route threads past red brick mills and waterside murals, offering plenty of spots to pause for photos as we follow calm sections of the Rochdale and Ashton canals into the centre. From here we continue south via well marked lanes towards Platt Fields Park — a leafy oasis with a lake, ornamental gardens and ample benches for a breather. It’s a perfect place for a relaxed tea break, toilets and a chat.

If the group is comfortable and keen, we’ll extend to Fletcher Moss Park and Botanical Gardens in Didsbury. This optional section uses the Fallowfield Loop and riverside paths for a mostly flat, scenic spin among meadows, mature trees and the gentle flow of the Mersey. Expect café options near Platt Fields and in Didsbury for snacks or a light lunch, plus additional toilets at park venues. We navigate so you can soak up the views; no one is left behind and we ride at a steady, easy going pace suitable for mixed experience. Bring water, a lock, and a bank card/cash for café stops.

Important safety notes
• Curry Mile & City Centre: Busy with buses and deliveries; drivers may open doors into the cycle lane; pedestrians can wander into the lane. We’ll brief the group, ride assertively with good spacing, and slow as needed. Stay alert and communicate hazards forward.
• Expect multiple traffic lights; groups may split. If lights change, stop and we’ll regroup safely within 100 m beyond the junction.
• Canal sections can have cobbles, glass and wet patches. We’ll take these slowly; walking tricky bits is fine.

Check the forecast and dress accordingly. Please bring water to stay hydrated, a bike lock, and a spare inner tube if you have one.

Organised in the friendly spirit of our community rides — a great way to meet people, explore, and build bike confidence.
