Hi everyone,

Please join us this Monday for a steady to challenging cycle ride along the cycle paths and roads of Tyneside.

We'll start the ride outside Jarrow Town Hall from 10:30am, so try to arrive ten minutes earlier at 10:20am. The ride should last around four hours, but may take longer.

The route will take us from Jarrow, Hebburn, Pelaw to Gateshead and the Angel of the North. From there we'll travel to Gateshead Staiths Cafe on the Gateshead side of the Tyne. We may head up the river to Wylam, before crossing to the North side linking to route 72 (Hadrian's way). We will then travel to North Shields across the ferry to South Shields and back to Jarrow. I've no idea how long this will take us? So please prepare for a long and happy ride out. :-)

To take part in the ride you will need a competent level of fitness, and be able to cycle around 30+ miles at a steady to challenging pace, with a five mile climb uphill section at the start of the ride and possibly against a head wind (which we encountered the last time out!). Great views of Tyneside once you get to the top though!

Items to bring with you:
• Small amount of cash (£3) for the Shields ferry crossing. :-)
• Your own bicycle with front and rear lights and reflectors.
• Helmet (optional).
• Bicycle repair kit/spare inner tube etc.
• Suitable clothing.
• Water bottle and energy snacks.
• You may need additional money if we decide to stop for a bite to eat.

Anyone joining us for the ride will be responsible for their own equipment and safety. Although I am a qualified cycle leader and first aider, I can't take responsibility for the actions of other cyclists. That said, I hope to create an enjoyable experience for all involved.
