The starting point is notionally Stratford because that is where we catch the train to Hatfield Peverell but you can also get on the train at Liverpool St station if that is more convenient. Just be on the right train.

The Central London Outdoor Group (CLOG) (founded 1937) http://www.clog.org.uk has one easy cycle rides in the countryside nearly every week between March and October ranging from 20 to 35 miles. These are easily accessible by public transport from London and are on quiet roads or cycle paths.

By bike we explore rivers, canals, forts, castles, coast, marshes, gardens, woods, ruins, churches, mansions, cycle-ferries, churchyards, villages, lost railways....

Essex cycling to the sea - actually the Blackwater Estuary 27 miles

We cycle out of Hatfield Peverell station on quiet roads, crossing the Chelmer-Blackwater Navigation and then Little Badlow, Curling Tye to the historic town of Maldon, home of the Thames sailing barges, where we will have lunch at one of the pubs or tearooms by the quay.

Then along Heybridge Basin by the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation to Colliers Reach, then north to Great Totham and more quiet lanes and back to Hatfield Peverell.

Meeting arrangements:

Be on the train that departs Stratford at 10:09 getting into Hatfield Peverell at 10:46. Get a Super Off-Peak Day return (£10.85 with discount card). The train starts from Liverpool St.

Buy a super off peak day return to Hatfield Peverel for £10.85 with a discount card (eg Network, Gold card, Senior etc). If anyone doesn't have a discount card, I can get up to 3 people the discount on my gold card if you get to Stratford early and find me. Or just get a Network Card (or Senior card if you are over 60) as it will soon pay for itself after a few journeys.

NB Central London Outdoor Group is non-commercial and events are organised by other members of the club on a voluntary basis. • May 2018 Holland and/or Belgium. Own bikes, Eurostar and/or overnight ferry from Harwich and train

• June 2018 Ruthr valley cycle route: Mountains, forests and lakes, historic cities and industrial heritage. Own bikes, Overnight ferry from Harwich and train

• Early July Baltic sea trail Lubeck to Stralsund. Own bikes, Overnight ferry from Harwich and train

• Late August Jutland.

• Late September Dolomites to Carinthian Lakes
