Starting point

London
N4 3EY

Please meet at the cafe in Finsbury Park, the one by the boating lake. Breeze/Let’s Ride volunteers wear green tops/jackets. I have a green bike and a blue cycle helmet.

This ride is about 9.5 miles and will be taken at a relaxed speed. It’s an interesting urban ride for those who like cycling round London, perhaps finding new routes to places usually visited by public transport.

To get to Sutton House we go through Finsbury Park - round the boating lake and running track - before leaving by the east gate onto Green Lanes. After a very short ride on Green Lanes we go left to Woodberry Grove towards Cycle Superhighway 1. From Heathland Road we use CS1 until going across Hackney Downs. After Clapton Square we use a shared path by St John Hackney until we stop at National Trust property Sutton House. We can decide on the day how long our stop will be.

The return route to Finsbury Park will be different to keep it interesting with lots of things to see along the way. From Sutton House we use TfL Quietway 2 through Hackney, across London Fields, around De Beauvoir Square/St Peter de Beauvoir and rejoin CS1 heading north. After a different section on CS1 we head to Finsbury Park via Clissold Park and the protective wands of Green Lanes (LB Hackney section). We enter Finsbury Park via the south gate and head back to the café/boating lake.

Wherever possible the route uses TfL or local authority infrastructure or roads with a low traffic level. The aim is to show you routes which avoid very busy roads and complex junctions. Route-planning is your friend. Our pre-ride chat always includes safety messages and advice on lowering risk. In case you don’t know, CS1 is Haringey’s nearest TfL superhighway. It starts at Tottenham Stadium and heads south until finishing at Finsbury Square. Like all TfL infrastructure it should be sign-posted the whole way making it easier to follow. Quietway 2 goes from Walthamstow Central to Farringdon Road and I’m thinking about a Q2 ride to the William Morris Gallery in Waltham Forest TBC.
