One for the more confident road riders amongst you, and those with one eye on the FLAB sportive in May, so it’s on the more “challenging” side of “steady”. Slight variation on a regular route to just stretch it to 30 miles, with a couple of sneaky hills to start to get you working. You need to be fairly confident with an average speed of 13mph, and comfortable riding in a group on a couple of short sections of road that may be quite busy.
Starting at Elvaston Castle car park, we’ll head out round the lanes before heading off towards a café stop somewhere near Mercia Marina, which is roughly half way. From there we’ll cross the Trent to Repton and deal with a couple of bigger hills before we loop back the way we came.
Although this ride isn’t aimed at newer riders, our usual FLAB rules apply – pace is governed by whoever is feeling slowest on the day, no one will be abandoned and left behind, we will wait and regroup, and catch our breath as required.
Bring a working bike, a working helmet, a working sense of humour, some money and a lock for the café stop, and a spare inner tube to fit your tyres just in case. Dress for the weather – if the café is busy we may end up having to sit outdoors so bringing an extra layer may be a good idea.
If the forecast looks particularly nasty I may have to cancel the ride at short notice, so keep an eye on your emails!
