Meeting outside the Co-Op in Sherburn village we use the quieter country roads to complete a circular route. Heading South from Sherburn we will use a road side cycle lane to avoid the busy road towards Coxhoe where we rejoin the road and head up hill to Quarrington Hill. Cutting across the busy A181 with care we continue onto Thornley and Wheatley before a well earned chance to rest at Horn's Garden centre where we can take advantage of the cafe facility. Heading north from Shotton Colliery we divert in Haswell to visit the Tom Simpson memorial. Tom was a GB cyclist who died taking part in the Tour de-France on the ascent of Mont-Ventoux. Onwards we pass briefly through Easington Lane and return to Sherburn via Pittington.
