Starting from - Porteur cycling cafe, 210 Church Road, Hove, BN3 2DJ

You can bring your bike inside this bike friendly cafe - there is safe bike storage inside, at the back of the cafe Kelly is in charge of the cafe side of things - with locally roasted coffee, wide range of teas, and lots of freshly baked cakes on offer, you might want to turn up early for some fuel for the ride and chat with other riders. Paul, the mechanic in charge of the workshop, can have a look at your bike if it's making a funny noise, and there is a track pump in the bike store to fully inflate your tyres before we ride out.

Starting point

East Sussex
BN3 2FN

This is the fifth ride in a series of nine between February to May, to get you ready for summer cycling holiday, sportive, or challenge ride. We go from 10 miles on the first ride to 35 miles in May.

This is a flat seafront ride, following the cycle paths and quiet roads from Hove through Southwick (over the Shoreham Harbour locks and past the village green) and Shoreham (across the shared use bridge ovr the River Adur), past the beach huts on Lancing beach, and with Worthing Pier appearing on the horizon as our destination point.

We will pause in Worthing for a cuppa, cake and chat, before heading home the way we came.

Whilst the route is flat, a headwind can often make it tough going on the way out (but with a lovely tailwind back home again!).

Please check your bike before heading out:
- are both tyres fully inflated?
- do both brakes work well?
- is the chain lubricated?

Bring clothing suitable for the weather - waterproofs as an extra layer if the wind is chilly as well as protection in a rain shower, gloves (fingers get cold when cycling in all but the warmest weather), layers to manage your temperature, especially when we stop, and nothing loose and flappy around your legs.

Also pack spare inner tube for your bike (easier to change the inner tube than fix a puncture out on the ride, and all bikes are different so you need one to fit your bike), pump, bike lock, and money for cafes.

If you have any questions about the ride, contact the ride leader Alison on [email protected] or 07967 094967. Also contact her if you are delayed getting to the start point, so we know to set off without you.
