**** This UK Breeze bike ride starts with a 30 min coaching session, brought to you by a qualified British Cycling Coach, followed by a steady ride.****
This is one of three rides in this 'fundamentals of descending and climbing' series. You can attend any or all of the sessions in the series.
Each session will focus on a different aspect of descending or climbing:
1 Braking comfortably to control your speed (on Monday 25 July 2022)
2 Cornering to descend with confidence (on Monday 1 August 2022)
3 Gear selection and seated versus standing climbing (on Monday 8 August 2022)
These are great sessions if you have only begun to ride more recently (e.g. those on the sofa to saddle series), or for those who may be returning to cycling after a break, or for regular riders wanting to improve and build on their skills. These sessions are not appropriate for complete beginners – it is not aimed at teaching how to ride a bike, but to build skills.
The coaching sessions will take place at Bryn Cegin Industrial Estate in Llandygai (LL57 4SS), a fabulous traffic free space for our activities, with permission kindly granted by the Welsh Government.
For the steady ride after the coaching session, we will do an 'out and back' to Morfa Aber nature reserve. This route is 16km (10 miles) and is undulating with almost 200m of ascent.
We depart from Bryn Cegin, on the roads skirting Penrhyn Castle grounds. We then wind our way through and up the country lanes at Crymlyn and descend to the Morfa Aber nature reserve at the coast. We then retrace our tracks back to Bryn Cegin.
We will keep the pace to suit the group (approx. 16kph / 10 mph) - and not go too fast. We never leave anyone behind. We regroup at the top of hills.
You need to book a place to join the ride.
This ride is 'no frills' as there is NO café stop. We will have some roadside stops to have a drink/snack (please bring your own).
This ride is weather dependent. We won't ride if there are strong winds (20mph+) or it is pouring with rain.
WHAT TO BRING:
A drink and snacks for the ride
Clothes suitable for the weather
A helmet
Repair kit and spare inner tube
Make sure your bike is in good working order with the tyres pumped up before arriving on the ride
