Queen Elizabeth Country Park sits in the South Downs Park near to Butser Hill, the Down’s Highest Point. Late in 2016 a cycle path was completed between the park and Buriton opening a new limited climbing route across the Downs. This ride routes itself to the park visitors centre climbing Portsdown Hill at Widley, through Denmead and searches out quiet lanes to Clanfield. After a coffee stop, the route returns to Clanfield, crosses the A3 and gently descends to Finchdean, Rowlands Castle and Westbourne. Returning via Emsworth and Havant to Farlington Marshes. An alternative return option extends the route by 3 miles, taking the new cycle path to Buriton and returns over the South Downs using Kiln Lane, a short challenging climb which can be walked. The reward is a beautiful wooded lane ride descending to Finchdean to join the original route.
