Starting point

London
W2 6LG

This is a train-( and bus-) assisted ride to Greenwich. As well as using the Elizabeth Line, we will have the new experience of the Bike Bus Shuttle which provides a free crossing for cyclists alongside the Silvertown Tunnel.

Our café stop is after 24km/15 miles, so you need to have enough water and snacks to keep you going until then.

Starting from Paddington, we ride through the Royal Parks, around Buckingham Palace, and cross the river at Vauxhall Bridge. We ride on through the Oval, across Burgess Park, and meet the river again at Deptford. We make our way through the busy Greenwich riverside past the Cutty Sark, and tackle the challenging climb to the top of Greenwich Park, to admire the view of the Royal Naval College and the National Maritime Museum, and to Canary Wharf across the river.

We cross the Park towards Blackheath, then turn back towards the river, visiting the less well-known East Greenwich Pleasaunce Park https://www.visitgreenwich.org.uk/things-to-do/east-greenwich-pleasaunce-park-p1399451 where we will have our café stop.

We then have a short ride down to the North Greenwich Peninsula, where we take the Silvertown Tunnel Cycle Shuttle https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/cycling/cycle-shuttle-service over to the Royal Docks. This is a free service. It takes a maximum of eight bikes per bus, so we will hope that we can all fit on one bus. The service runs every twelve minutes, so if we do get separated, it shouldn’t take long to regroup.

From the Royal Docks, we have a final short ride across the Lower Lea Crossing, to take the Elizabeth Line back from Canary Wharf.
