This is a bit of a challenging ride not because of the distance, which is only short, but for the hills, and some fairly busy roads along the way, so you need to be confident cycling on roads. This is not a beginner’s ride.
We will cycle to Hampstead Heath first through Camden, taking on a few hills from Parliament Hill to join the Heath. We cross Spaniards Road by foot and then get to Hill Gardens, where we will stop for a while to walk along the Pergola. You will need a bike lock here as there is no way of carrying the bikes up to the Pergola, apart from a few big, and some narrow, stairs (and it would probably not be appreciated by the other visitors anyway).
After our walk, we will cycle to the North of Golders Hill Park where we will stop at the café for refreshments, and then cut through the park to the West to start making our way back going down the hills of Hampstead. We aim to be back at Roundwood Park around 2pm.
The terrain of the Heath and Golders Hill Park is gravely and can be rough and muddy especially if it had rained, so this ride is not suitable for bikes with skinny tyres.
If you find this ride fully booked, get in the waiting list as spaces always become available nearer the date. However, please do not sign up if you’re not sure you can join.
