The ride is along the traffic free Ivanhoe Trail, through the reasonably quiet roads in Ratby, into the Martinshaw Woods on wide dirt track, then through Pear Tree woods on gravelled tracks, a short stretch of very rural road, a paved traffic free section by the golf course to near Thornton, then an on-road section down to the gravel track around Thornton Reservoir. We then return via the same route.

This is a good leg stretcher, with some diverse surfaces, and the latter section is quite hilly. We will be taking it pretty slow though so this is good opportunity for the less confident rider to come out with us. I will be on my extra heavy mountain bike so no rush here!

I recommend a minimum of 8 gears, gloves and helmets as falls can happen on gravel, we're out in the sticks a bit so bring water and I'd recommend sarnies for at the reservoir. There may be an ice cream van.
