This is a longer, train-assisted ride, enjoying green spaces across South London, with our destination the unique Mayfield Lavender Farm on the edge of Surrey
https://www.mayfieldlavender.com/ . Much of the ride is on traffic free tracks; however, there are some short stretches on busier roads. There are some short sharp gradients towards the end of the ride. Apart from a short stop at Morden Hall Park, you will need to be able to ride almost all of the distance before our refreshment stop.
Our route takes us across Richmond Park, along the Beverley Brook, and over Coombe Hill into New Malden, and then follows the traffic free Beeline Way to Raynes Park. Quiet back roads lead us to Morden Hall Park (24km/15 miles), where we will have a brief stop, before picking up the southern section of the Wandle Way down to Carshalton. Then we take more back roads and paths through Carshalton and Oaks Parks, to reach the Lavender Farm.
Admission is £5. We will have refreshments at the café. Please note that the website states that picnics and bringing your own food is not permitted. If this is a difficulty for you, there is a public park with a café and benches nearby. We will lock up our bikes and enjoy strolling through the lavender fields, and maybe visiting the gift shop.
When we’ve had enough lavender, we will retrace our steps to Carshalton for train services back home. The ThamesLink service goes to Farringdon (2 trains per hour, approx. 50 mins journey time) where we can connect to the Elizabeth Line back to Ealing; or you can continue on ThamesLink further north to St Pancras, Cricklewood, West Hampstead, etc. Other trains run from Carshalton to Clapham Junction, where you can connect to London Overground Services, e.g. to Willesden Junction.
