We follow the cycle path towards Harrogate and then cross the Stray before picking up the Greenway by Asda and this takes us alongside the railway. We cross the bridge over the Nidd and head into picture post card Ripley before a steady traffic free climb to Clint where we re-join the road. We make towards and round Brimham Rocks with some stunning views. We then head to Fountains Abbey where we go through the Deer Park which has Ripon Cathedral dead centre in view. Going through Studley Roger, no connection, we get to Ripon. We will walk past the cathedral after our lunch stop before remounting and heading south to Knaresborough through picturesque villages and on quiet roads. We follow the Nidd, but before going under the railway bridge in Knaresborough, we climb out and back to Harrogate.

My favourite route going from Harrogate northwards to Ripon and looping back. Stunning examples of the natural environment over the Nidd, in the Deer Park at Studley Royal and at Brimham Rocks matched by the built environment at Ripley, on the bridge over the Nidd, at Ripon Cathedral and in Knaresborough.

Mainly quiet rural roads with urban bits in Harrogate(as far as Asda anyway), Ripon and Knaresborough with traffic free sections from the car park and then on the Bilton Greenway, through Ripley and the Deer Park.

We will stop in Ripon and go to No 10 which was a favourite but has relocated and has indoor/outdoor seating plus space for bike parking which is at a premium in Ripon.

Helmets to be worn with spare inner tube brought plus clothing/sun screen appropriate for the weather which looks v. good at present.

We never leave anyone behind
