This is a shorter ride, 21 miles, and less hilly than many, 1350’ of climbs, that should be of interest to those with energy left after Paul’s Mystery Ride the evening before, or those who were not able to join it.
It is a lopsided figure of eight ride that loops round Pudsey after passing through Saltaire, Wrose, Undercliffe and Thornbury on a mix of mainly quiet suburban roads and some traffic free sections. We head back up to Woodhall Hills with its stunning long distance views before dropping down into Calverley and going through the woods to Apperley Bridge. We then take the track from Thackley down to the canal at Buck Lane and making our way back on the canal to Hirst Wood. All the traffic free sections are suitable for hybrid/e-bikes and high traffic roads kept to a minimum.

There is no refreshment stop, partly because of the brevity of the ride, but also because I have an appointment at 2.30. There is however the option at the end of the ride to go to the Higher Ground, something that I will do if time permits.

Helmets are a must as is some hi-vis outerwear. Make sure you have a spare inner tube at least and that your brakes, tyres etc are in good condition. Check that the British Cycling website has up to date personal and emergency contact details.
