Starting point

London
W5 2BY

This is a new route, exploring a different part of London. Part of it follows the Wandle Trail, a mostly traffic-free route following the course of the River Wandle, which used to be famous for its watermills powering textile factories, especially William Morris and the Arts & Crafts movement. We will be riding at a leisurely pace on shared paths for much of the ride. But you do also need to be fairly confident in traffic.

Riding out from Ealing, we make our way down to the river at Hammersmith, then through Fulham and Parsons Green, to cross at Wandsworth Bridge. We make our way through Wandsworth Town to join the Wandle Trail in King George’s Park. We have a bit more traffic to negotiate in Earlsfield, before getting back onto the Trail and following it all the way to Merton Abbey Mills and Morden Hall Park.

We will have a leisurely pause in the Park, with time for refreshments at the Potting Shed Café, and a look around the Gardens.

Our return ride takes us along quiet suburban streets through Merton Park, Wimbledon Park, Southfields, and back to the river at Putney. Then we turn along the riverside path as far as Barnes, crossing the river again at Chiswick Bridge and making our way back to Ealing via Kew Bridge and South Ealing.
