Starting from the Timberlake Car Park off Radlett Road in North Watford, this scenic route is best suited to mountain bikes and hybrids with offroad tyres. It is not suitable for road bikes, e-bikes or adaptive cycles due to the route we take.

The route is over 70% offroad and takes you via the traffic-free Abbey Way and Ebury Way, onto the canal towpath near Croxley and past the Grove Hotel before stopping at Cheslyn House & Gardens where we will spend some time admiring the beautiful gardens, aviary, fish pond and exotic trees and shrubs in their springtime colours.

You MUST bring a bike lock with you as bikes cannot be taken around the gardens, but there is a bike rack provided just inside the grounds.

We will aim to spend up to 40 minutes in the gardens. There is no planned cafe stop on this ride.

Mountain bikes, hybrids with offroad tyres, gravel / cyclocross bikes are best suited to this. The canal towpath and Ebury Way can be muddy and uneven so road tyres are not suitable. Please ensure you do have lights on your bike as visibility is very important at this time of year.

Please wrap up warm and dry and wear a helmet and gloves, as the route goes through some bumpy terrain. Don't forget a drink and a snack, a spare inner tube or two, and a good quality bike lock with you for the stop at Cheslyn Gardens.

We will go at a steady pace, enjoying the sights and sounds of the countryside, but never leave anyone behind!

Please arrive by 10:20am so we can run through a riders register and bike checks before we set off.
