For the October ride we are returning to one of our favourite routes along the Granite Way. However, this time we will not be stopping at the café in Okehampton. The ride is being extended by 4 miles to the pretty Dartmoor village of Belstone with a pub stop at the Tors Inn.
The route starts at Lydford and we will ride at a steady pace along the traffic free Granite Way (NCN Route 27). We will skirt the edge of Dartmoor stopping regularly to enjoy the wonderful views of the Dartmoor tors, West Devon and on into Cornwall. After crossing the spectacular Meldon viaduct we will aim for Okehampton station, from here we take an off-road track above the town before joining the quiet lanes to Belstone village.
After a well-earned break at the Tors Inn we will return along the same route with the option of a short detour to Meldon Reservoir.
This route has a steep on-road section so, although graded as easy going, it may not be suitable for less experienced or less confident riders.
For your own comfort you may wish to bring along refreshments. There is a limited lunch time menu at the pub so you may prefer to bring your own lunch.
The only requirements are that you bring a roadworthy bike, a helmet and suitable clothing remembering that we will be cycling on the edge of Dartmoor. Lycra is definitely not a requirement!
