Padiham loop, Bike Ride

The ride starts from the side of the railway bridge next to the sports centre and goes by the disused railway line towards Burnley then on to the canal path to the underpasses at Gannow top where we go on to a minor road which is designated the Burnley greenway which takes us down to the river where we cross a wooden bridge on to another private paved road taking us back towards Padiham.

This takes us past the Burnley FC training grounds and also Gawthorpe hall both of which can be seen from the route, we then go on to a minor road which takes us to the main traffic lights in Padiham, there is a pelican crossing there which we can use to cross the main road just a short distance back to the start

We will ride at the rate of the slowest rider and will not leave anyone behind

Please make sure your bikes are in good working order and a suitable inner tube or puncture repair outfit is brought along

This route uses the old railway track and the Padiham and Burnley greenway. Starting from Park road just outside the Padiham leisure centre were we join the old railway line which is now a paved surface this then goes on to the Leeds Liverpool canal towpath which is quite wide. We then go under the motorway and under the main road at Burnley before a short distance on minor roads and then onto the padiham greenway crossing over the river Calder on to a traffic free route back to Padiham. Passing near to Burnley FC training grounds there is a short section now where we have to cross the main road in padiham which we can complete on foot dependant on the age and confidence of the riders returning back to the starting point on Park road, there is ample parking on the road outside the leisure centre

Ride is mostly traffic free or on quite side roads except for the short section on returning through Padiham

We will take stops on the ride to rest if people require these and will travel at the pace of the slowest rider

Cycle helmets are compulsory for all riders under 18 years of age and it is strongly recommended that everyone wears a cycle helmet wear clothing appropriate to the weather and bring a spare inner tube or puncture repair outfit in case of punctures
