Be ready to ride at 11am please.
Meet at 10.45 for bike check.

Join us to celebrate the suffragette movement in Manchester with a sociable bike ride from Sale into the city centre (and back). The suffragettes used their bikes to get to meetings and rallies, so a bike ride seems appropriate! The humble bicycle is still useful today in providing a cheap and reliable form of transport - riding as bike is freedom!

Meet outside Sale Library adjacent to the canal. Toilets in the library. Parking is available at Q Park multistorey on Broad Road (other side of canal).

We will ride up the canal, then ride along the new segregated cycle way on Talbot Road and Stretford Road. There is then a short section of unprotected road riding until we join the Oxford Road cycle way to St Peter's Square. We will return along the Bridgewater Way through Castlefield and Trafford, back to the start point.

Ride from Sale to St Peter's Square in central Manchester to see the unveiling of the Emmiline Pankhurst statue. Optional return ride. Wear a splash of purple, white and/or green to celebrate the suffragettes. Everyone is welcome to join this ride. Please do make sure your bike is road worthy - take it to your local bike shop if unsure.

Most bikes are suitable for this mostly flat, mainly segregated from traffic and canal topath route.

Aim to arrive at St Peter's Square at about 12.15 to see the unveiling ceremony up to 1pm. Grab a bite to eat and a hot chocolate at the Christmas Market in Albert Square. Return ride to Sale along the canal leaves at 1.30pm.

Helmets are advisable - some city centre roads. Good lights - front and rear - in case of fog and rain. Money for refreshments. Spare inner tube. You will need to be able to change your inner tube on your own bike in case of punctures.

Return ride is optional - you can make your own way home of you prefer.
