Starting point

Midlothian

Starting at Dalkeith High School Campus we will cycle through Woodburn and pick up the shared off road path to Rosewell and onto Penicuik with a circular loop at the end and then back to Rosewell with a couple of miles detour loop to Whitehill Golf course and then picking up the shared path again and returning back to Dalkeith. 23 mile sin total with 900' of elevation. No big hills and a good route for a windy and / or cold day.

A fairly flat off road route to Penicuik and back with a couple of short detours for interest.

Mainly off road - shared paths with tarmac and also gravel paths. A couple of main roads to cross across. A hybrid or gravel bike is best, but if you have a road bike with bigger tyres will also work for the gravel section or a mountain bike. And any type of bike.

A coffee stop is planned at Rosewell about 17 miles into the ride and will be booked once numbers confirmed.

Please bring the following with you: Bike in good working order, a helmet, spare inner-tube / puncture repair kit or a means of getting home in the event of a puncture / mechanical, a bike lock if you have one, but don’t worry I have a small spare one, card or cash payment if you want to buy anything at our café stop. And of course a water bottle or two, some snacks, water proof in case it rains and warm clothing for this time of year. I personally would strongly advice overboots to protect your feet (nothing worse than cold and wet feet!)

First-timers welcome!
