Starting point

Gwynedd

First in a series of free winter rides for women from Penrhyn Castle. Cycle through the Castle grounds and over the Roman Road to Penmeanmawr before returning to the Castle Cafe for lunch, a snack or cake & panad …. and a chat.

Suitable for all bikes (including e-bikes) and open to all women over 16. The rides will be led by British Cycling trained cycle leaders. British Cycling's Breeze is a programme to get more women into riding bikes for fun. These rides are free, but you need to bring your own bike & please book in advance on this site.

The route will take us through the Castle grounds to Port Penrhyn and up Lon Las Ogwen cycle path. At Llandygai we’ll pick up Cycle Route 5 & take this all the way along the coast to Penmeanmawr. The route is mainly quiet back roads with some minor roads, the R5 cycle route & the cycle path. There is one section along the pavement adjacent to the A55 which we will take at a slow and steady pace.

Its a really pretty route being mainly along the coast. The back roads from Tal y Bont to Aber climb high to offer wonder views over the Menai Strait towards Anglesey and Puffin Island.

There are a few hills although they are well spaced to catch your breath. Everyone can take them at their own pace and we’ll regroup at the top. This ride would be suitable for experienced cyclists who fancy a social spin through to those getting into or returning to cycling who would like to challenge themselves. The ride will be fully supported by Breeze Champions and we never leave anyone behind. If you are not sure if this ride is for you please do message me.

There is no entrance fee to the Castle, but if you are a member of the National Trust please bring your membership card to scan at the Visitor Centre. Penrhyn Castle are kindly allowing us to cycle through their grounds and have access to their cafe but we do need to stay together as a group.
If you would like to look round the castle itself you will need to purchase a ticket from the Visitor Centre if you are not a National Trust member.

Numbers are limited so please sign up ahead of time.

** Please bring your helmet, a spare inner tube and check your bike is in good order & the tyres are pumped up before arriving. Bring a drink, any snacks for the ride and and clothes appropriate for the weather. **

** We will leave on the ride at 10 am, but please arrive at Penrhyn Castle Visitor Centre 15’ earlier (at 9:45am) for pre-bike checks. **

Any questions, please do message me!
