We start along the quiet lanes of north Wight on the Round the Island route clockwise, through Cowes, Gurnard and Porchfield to Newtown. Here we stop outside the Town Hall, that was saved by a group of radical women called Ferguson's Gang, led by the island's Peggy Pollard, aka Bill Stickers in the 1920's. From there we head through Gunville to Carisbrooke on busier roads. At Carisbrooke we'll stop for refreshments at the Priory tea room. By the way, there is an exhibition at Carisbrooke Castle Museum, inside the Castle, until the end of July 2022: Out On An Island: An Untold Heritage is an exhibition dedicated to LGBTQ+ heritage on the Isle of Wight. After the refreshments, we'll return to Cowes along the traffic-free cycleway via Newport. The ride will finish at the Boat Shed of the Classic Boat Museum at Thetis Wharf 117a Medina Yard, Thetis Road, Cowes, PO31 7DJ. Those who visited the Gallery can make the most of the combined ticket by visiting the Gallery also. Others may wish to grab lunch in Cowes.
