Starting from the rugby club, we will head along the Elan Valley trail to its end at Craig Coch Dam.
The trail takes us through woodland as far as Caban Coch dam, where we follow the reservoirs past Garreg Ddu and Penygarreg dams through Devils Gulch arriving at Craig Coch "top dam"
We return along the parallel road stopping at Penbont Tea Rooms for a well-deserved snack stop, then past some amazing tree sculptures on our way back.
The trail is a mix of tarmac and trail surface - suitable for gravel and hybrid bikes - and thinner wheeled road bikes with care.
There is nothing technical and its mostly flat - only a couple of short hills.
If we meet adverse weather conditions we can shorten the ride

The first in a series of autumn rides in Rhayader and the Elan Valley The rides will alternate gravel/road rides with mountain bike rides We will explore trails, country lanes, bridleways and forests - with a few hills (it is mid-Wales after all!) but nothing too technical. Designed to encourage you to keep riding as chillier autumn weather kicks in - with beautiful views, great company and a café stop during the ride or at the end
