Starting point

London
W5 2BY

This is a lovely ride, with many traffic-free sections, down the Grand Union Canal to Brentford, through Syon Park to the river at Isleworth, and then along the river to Twickenham. Here we load our bikes onto Hammertons Ferry for the short river crossing to Ham and continue to ride along the river to the Teddington Lock. (If the ferry is unavailable for any reason, or too busy, we have the option of riding down through Strawberry Vale and crossing the river via the footbridge at the Teddington Lock.)

We turn to ride through Ham Common to the Ham Gate and a short, sharp climb to the top of Richmond Park. We ride around the Park, enjoying the sweeping views and green spaces. We have the option of a shorter or longer route around the Park, and also the choice of on-road and off-road (Tamsin Trail) routes.

We will have a well-deserved refreshment stop at Pembroke Lodge, where we can explore the gardens and admire the view from King Henry’s Mound, before leaving the Park via the Richmond Gate. An easy route of quiet back streets brings us down to Kew Bridge, and then back to Ealing.
