Welcome to another of our new feature rides – Ride Darlo “On Tour”!

We start from the Wynyard Woodland Park complex in Stockton-on-Tees, there is parking and good facilities here. We join the old Castle Eden railway and follow the route directly north, passing Hurworth Burn reservoir, then through Station Town, Wingate and Shotton. We come off the railway at South Hetton and head east into Hawthorn for our stopover at Palomino’s. After our break, we’ll carry on north into Seaham for a photo stop with Tommy on the seafront. We’ll start the return journey by heading back to the old railway, then we’ll ride the outward route in reverse. A great ride which takes in some local history in riding the old railway and travels through multiple counties. Iconic stopover in Seaham with a visit to the infamous Tommy’s sculpture. Palomino’s is a lovely little café in the country.

This ride is classed as a CHALLENGING ride which is nearly 40 miles in total. The ride is undulating with some hill climbs. The ride is all on the road or cycleways – some light trails on the old railway. Hybrid bikes recommended for this ride. It is suitable for riders who are comfortable sustaining around 12mph avg. and can continually cycle for around 3 hours each way. The stopover on this ride will be up to an hour. Bear in mind these times are a guide and the ride can take longer.

PLEASE NOTE This ride is NOT suitable for children, unless they are experienced cyclists. A bug on the Let’s Ride website currently shows that all rides are suitable for children of all ages, this is not correct.
