Barking Abbey

A sponsored cycling pilgrimage on the theme of 'Caring for the Environment' .The pilgrims, who will cycle from Barking Abbey to Waltham Abbey, will help to contribute funds to the Friends of Essex Churches Trust as part of the annual Ride & Stride event that takes place on the same day. “The 23-mile route is in two parts. Starting from St Margaret's, on the site of Barking Abbey, to Limehouse, mainly following the Bazalgette Greenway and the Limehouse Cut. “There would be time for a break here before retracing our path back to the Regent's Canal, Victoria Park and joining the Lee Valley route all the way to Waltham Abbey. “We start in groups from St Margaret's Barking at 10am. We break for lunch at about 1.30pm at Mile End Park or Victoria Park (west). Our arrival at Waltham Abbey will be about 4.30pm. The route may need to be changed a little to circumvent the security restrictions imposed by the Olympic authorities during the Paralympics.
